We are back from issue #002 and excited to share our breakdown for AI Video Outreach. Full disclosure, because trust is the whole point. I build a GTM brain that sits above these tools, not a video tool competing with them. I’m tool-agnostic: I’ll run whichever outreach stack a client asks for, including ones I review right here. No vendor pays to be in this newsletter, I sell none of them, and every tool gets the same public rubric. I’m telling you which one works, not which one bought the slot. Read me skeptically. That’s the job.
In Issue #001 I left video out of the AI SDR teardown on purpose, it’s its own category. Here it is. And it’s the cleanest example yet of the only question that matters in this newsletter: is the AI doing something real, or is it a party trick? Because video splits perfectly down that line. On one side, a human records a quick clip. On the other, an AI generates a video of “you” that you never actually filmed. Same category. Totally different bet.
How I scored it
Same 100-point rubric as every issue. For video, two pillars do the heavy lifting: whether the AI is native or a gimmick, and whether the output survives contact with a real prospect at volume.
AI-native vs. bolted-on (30): Is the AI generating genuinely personalized video, or auto-captioning a human recording?
Authenticity at volume (25): Does it still feel human at scale, or does it hit the uncanny valley and tank trust?
Integration depth (20): Drops cleanly into your CRM, sequencer, and emails, or a standalone island?
Time-to-value (15): Recording or rendering friction. How fast to a video that’s actually worth sending?
Trust & disclosure (10): Does it help you stay honest that a clip is AI-generated, or hide it?
The two archetypes (and the line between them)
Strip away the branding and video splits into two buckets. Knowing which bucket a tool is in tells you more than any feature list.
1. Human Async Video
Loom, Vidyard, Bonjoro, Sendspark. A real person hits record. Authentic, warm, and it converts, especially mid-funnel and for follow-ups, because the prospect knows a human spent 60 seconds on them. The catch is obvious: it doesn’t scale. You can’t record a thousand personal videos before lunch. These tools win on hosting, tracking, and getting the clip into the email, not on AI. Buy them for the workflow, not the buzzword.
2. AI-Generated Video
Tavus, HeyGen. This is the AI-native side, and the genuinely new thing. You record once; the AI clones your face and voice and generates thousands of “personalized” videos, each one saying the prospect’s name and company. The scale is real and the tech is legitimately impressive. The risk is equally real: the uncanny valley, and the trust cliff when a prospect realizes the “personal” video was never personal. Used with disclosure and taste, it’s powerful. Used to fake intimacy at scale, it backfires hard.
The scorecard: all 6, ranked
Every tool in the category, same rubric. 90+ buy with confidence, 75 to 89 strong with caveats, 60 to 74 situational, under 60 skip. Framework-based, not yet lab-tested, my read of each tool’s positioning and archetype.

What actually separates the winners
Authenticity is the asset, and AI can spend it fast. Human video works because it’s scarce and real. The moment AI makes “personal” video infinite, the whole channel’s value depends on whether you’re honest about it. The tools that help you disclose will age better than the ones that help you fake it.
Distribution beats production. A gorgeous video that doesn’t auto-embed in your sequence and track who watched is a hobby. The highest scores go to the tools that nail the boring plumbing, CRM sync, sequencer fit, analytics.
Match the tool to the funnel stage. AI-generated video for top-of-funnel reach; human video for warm, mid-funnel, and high-value moments. Using AI avatars on a VIP is how you lose the VIP.
The bottom line
If you’re buying: get a human-async tool (Vidyard or Loom) for warm follow-ups and high-value prospects, full stop, that’s a safe, high-ROI buy. Only reach for AI-generated video (Tavus) if you have real top-of-funnel scale and the discipline to disclose. Pilot the AI side on a small segment and watch reply sentiment, not just open rates, before you scale it.
The bigger pattern: this is Issue #001 all over again. The AI-native tools carry the huge upside and the bigger risk. The teams that win don’t ask “can the AI do it at scale,” they ask “should it.” Scale without trust is just spam with better production values. Keep a human in the loop on what represents you, and AI video becomes an edge instead of a liability.
